EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT’S COLUMN
By Vincent J. Squillace
Executive Vice President

The housing issue continues with questions remaining

While the notoriety of the housing issue continues; enacting meaningful remedies continue.  HB 361 was designed to deal with the issue that is as much related to a shortage than any other culprit, fell upon deaf ears in the Ohio House.  While some agreed to pass it, the squeaky wheels won out and got a delay.  We have asked your help in trying to rally legislators to help us out.  Hopefully, you have reached out to your state legislator.

Events in Washington DC are unpredictable.  Yes, that is an understatement.  Just take a look at the heralded housing bill which passed in a bipartisan way, a rarity, only to be held hostage by the president until an unrelated bill is passed.  The only positive here is that a housing issue got some attention as an issue of importance.  Our own Bill Owens, Chair of NAHB, was on his way to the White House for a signing ceremony only to be told at the last moment the bill would not be signed.

On a happier side, we were treated to a fun time at our Summer Board Meeting.  Many past presidents were in attendance.  Past president Al Scott, who is also the first father to current President Jason Scott, invited us to his home for a fun night a lobster boil to remember.

The officers of OHBA are working hard on your behalf.  Additionally, we have many committed past presidents who continue to share their time and talent to maintain our strong association which serves all of you everyday
