Celebrate Our Community on Small Business Saturday

Judie Docs, Executive Officer
North Coast Building Industry Association

Small Business Saturday is a day to celebrate and support the small businesses that make our
communities vibrant. This year, Small Business Saturday falls on November 25. Small
businesses are the backbone of the American economy and play a vital role in our communities.
They fuel our local economy and provide unique products and services that we all rely on.
There are several ways you can support small businesses in our community. From buying
business cards to eating at local restaurants, every purchase is an investment back into our
community. Indirect support for small businesses, such as promoting your favorite small coffee
shop on social media or leaving positive reviews, also makes a big difference.
When you shop at a small business, you're not just supporting the business owner and their
employees. You're also supporting the local economy and culture. Small companies are more
likely to hire residents, give back to the community and offer unique products and services that
you can't find at big box stores. In addition, small businesses are more likely to reinvest their
profits in the community, which helps to create jobs and support other local merchants.
Our community’s local home builders and remodelers are also small businesses contributing to
our local economy. According to the National Association of Home Builders, constructing 100
new single-family homes creates 394 local jobs, $28 million in wages and business income and
$3.6 million in taxes and other revenue for local governments.
Once your holiday shopping list is complete, if you're looking for someone to remodel or even
build your dream home, consider seeking a business based in our community to see what they
offer. Our community has an array of qualified professionals including home builders,
remodelers, trades people and professional service providers.
On Small Business Saturday, take some time to visit your local small businesses and see what
they have to offer. For more information on locating a small business related to the home
building industry visit www.ncbia.com.
We are your local not-for-profit trade association representing member companies involved in all
